My Role

Asked to lead the effort to come up with a new product UI look and feel.

Problem Statement

How do we manage inventory across store locations with multiple warehouse locations and a verbose online sales channel? Defining the over all process that each store takes to manage and share inventory along with the requests for new inventory from a warehouse nearest them with the product.

Research

Through interviews with multiple stakeholders in the company we could identify the largest issues faced when managing inventory. Using that data gathered in the interviews we could define the roles affected by the product and set guidelines to provide value to them to achieve success.

Solution

Through a very collaborative design process the initial design evolved from the initial concept to the final solution. Weekly stakeholder meetings and reviews of the design accompanied the revisions to the design files. Prototypes were built and shared with key users in various locations to test usability and completeness of features. Once a final design had been established by the design team development took part with multiple rounds of testing continued.

Learning

1 Custom isn’t always easier: When dealing with a custom problem for a small set of users may seem easy but having a more direct smaller issue to uncover the complexity can add extra levels of difficulty.

2 Always Dig Deeper: Working though a problem may seem like the solution is presenting itself. Dig deeper to as why until you can’t anymore. Uncovering the users true process and frictions can inform the way you need to solution.
